Under the title FOREWARD, this drawing was on display during an exhibition at the Museum of Art Providence, Rhode Island, School of Design, from June 3–4, 1961 (catalogue, no. 7). During Willem's lifetime, the drawing was shown at an important exhibition in Paris: Musée du Jeu de Paume, Paris, Exposition hollandaise. Tableaux, aquarelles, dessins, April 10 to May 31, 1926 (catalogue, no. 71a or b).

The pendant to this work is part of the collection of the Drents Museum Assen.
