Luděk Majer (1925-2013)
Luděk Majer (Solanec under Solan 1925 - Rožnov pod Radhoštěm 2013)
Painter, graphic artist and illustrator. He grew up as the youngest of 6 children in a farming family in the Czech Republic.
Education: the Art Academy in Zlín (1944-1946) and the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague (1946-1951). He was taught by, among others, František Podešva (1893-1979), Vladimír Sychra (1903-1963) and Ján Želibský (1907-1997). He himself taught at the art academy in Solana.
Luděk Majer painted landscapes (especially the landscape of Wallachia), portraits and he also illustrated books.
He said of his landscapes: "I try not to make a copy of the landscape with my work. I could also make a photo of that. My paintings represent a kind of testimony about Wallachia".
