Jeweler since 1876. Today, the company also sells designs by others in addition to its own brand. The company founded by David Andersen grew to international size within a few years. His designs based on the visual language of Viking ships and stave churches were popular. After Andersen's death in 1901, his widow Sophia took over David-Andersen, after her death the company passed to their sons. During that period, designs were inspired by Art Nouveau. In the first quarter of the twentieth century, David-Andersen was the largest jeweler in Scandinavia. The period during the Second World War was difficult for the company. In terms of design, the focus was more on Art Deco.
In 1959 David-Andersen was registered as a limited company. During this period it picked up again and inspiration was drawn from modernism from the US and England. Bjørn Sigurd Østern was appointed as a designer in the 1960s and introduced several modern designs. For financial reasons less corpus work was made, but more jewels. In the 1970s, experiments were conducted with metals other than gold and silver. In the 1990s, investments were made in the development of new collections and there was more collaboration with external designers. Craft and tradition are still held in high regard by David-Andersen.
