Jean Baptiste POILLY (Paris 1669 - Paris 1728)
Jean Baptiste de Poilly trained as an engraver and made study trips to Italy. He was admitted to the Académie in 1714 and established himself as a draftsman, engraver, and publisher in Paris. His oeuvre consists of prints after works by artists such as Domenichino and Pierre Mignard, primarily depicting religious and allegorical subjects. Poilly also worked as a portrait engraver and published his prints from his studio on rue Saint-Jacques. His works are held in museums including the British Museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
