JUUL KRAIJER (Assen 1970) draftsman, sculptor, photographer, video artist
Kraijer studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam. She graduated cum laude in 1994 with drawings, which at the time was hardly seen as an independent discipline. In her charcoal drawings and photos, the woman is a recurring element, but she is stripped of personality and context and is only an "symbolic embodiment of moods". Kraijer's works are deliberately untitled, so that everyone can give them their own interpretation. She is inspired by mythology, psychology and nature, among other things. In addition to drawing, she also focuses on photography and sculpting. Kraijer exhibits at home and abroad. She has been awarded various stipends for her work and received the Charlotte Köhler Prize (1998), the Pendrecht Culture Prize (2000), the Philip Morris Art Prize (2004) and the Thérèse van Duyl-Schwartze Portrait Prize (2009). In 2012, she was portrayed by filmmaker Lisa Boerstra for the documentary series Dutch Masters in the 21st century.
