Founded in 1949
Yn'e Line was a Frisian painting group consisting of five painters who made expressionist work. Influences of the Groningen painters group De Ploeg could be recognized in the work of Yn'e Line. The name, Yn'e Line, means in the line and refers to the man who holds the gymnastics ship in line. This is a metaphor for the fact that the painters distanced themselves from the still prevailing naturalism in Friesland. The members of Yn'e Line were self-taught and together they were inspired by visiting exhibitions and discussing their work with each other.
