Egermann ruby red vase made of Bohemian crystal, cut-to-clear with a floral motif.
Friedrich Egermann (1777-1864) of Novy Bor, Czech Republic was the first one to use the motives of a shell, stag and the chateau that can all be seen in this vase and his revolutionary staining technique made his heritage as important as that of Moser in the history of Bohemian crystal. Staining is a complicated, physical and chemical process, during which the elements of silver or copper are thrust into the glass surface at high temperatures, causing the coloured tinge several tens of microns under the surface.
