Tony Krikhaar grew up in the rural east of The Netherlands. As a young artist in the 1960-ies he lived in the very heart of urban London.Wherever he went, Tony produced his memorable expressionist cityscapes depicting the excitement of London waking up to its post-war potential. Yet, Tony's childhood experience of wide skies and unspoilt nature and above all, the very essence of the sun streaked, windswept expanses of countryside observed by the adult Tony in Somerset, Norfolk and France, left an abiding impression.
Whilst living and working in the often barren environment of central London, Tony has time and again sought and succeeded in encapsulating in oils the peace and beauty of rural landscapes surrounding him when away from the city. Now the moment has come to view Tony's latest work. This constitutes once more an ode to the very essence of landscape and the solace and inspiration it gives him.Although Tony has exhibited world-wide in Galleries and at Art-fairs (see exhibitions) he has an large and growing international following, which enables him through curators to organise successfully exhibitions at his home. I had the pleasure of curating a similar event in 2008.
That show which was originally intended for one evening only had to be repeated twice by popular demand. The intimacy of the artist's home permits the works to be admired from close-up and at leisure without any pressure or formality. Tony, Marietta and I will be absolutely delighted to welcome you in this informal manner again. I wish you great enjoyment of Tony's Essence of Landscape.
