The artistic production of the tribes living in southern Africa has not been deeply studied. Until 1960, most of the objects found in these regions were attributed to the Zulu, the most important political force of the region.
Even if nowadays the identification of ethnic groups and arts has expanded, it remains difficult to attribute with certainty, certain pieces to certain ethnic groups.
Also, it is important to know that many interethnic exchanges in these regions have enabled the trade of objects, which we can therefore find within several groups simultaneously. This partly explains why these are mainly nomadic groups.
However, we can note the important recurrence of figurines and dolls with beads in bright colours, like this one.
It reminds, by far, the Fali dolls. The tubular body is decorated with limbs made of beads ending in cowry shells.
Usually, these kinds of benevolent dolls intervened to favour the fertility of women.
