JAVIER DE JUAN — "El Ciclista" (1984) — Port Said Ediciones — Hand-Signed 38/99 Lot Title / Headline: Javier de Juan – "El Ciclista" (1984) – Port Said Ediciones (Madrid) – Rare Large-Format Original Silkscreen / Serigraph – Limited Edition 38/99 – Hand-Signed in Pencil – 70x100 cm – Near Mint / Archive State Description: Discover a premier cornerstone of the Spanish Movida movement with this exceptionally scarce, hand-signed and numbered gallery-exclusive fine art print. Originally published in Madrid by Port Said Ediciones (1984), this commanding masterwork captures the peak graphic genius of Javier de Juan (born 1958) during the height of Spain’s mid-1980s cultural renaissance. • Gallery Valuation: Comparable large-format limited editions by Javier de Juan from the Movida period command retail gallery prices between €650 and €750 in contemporary art galleries across Madrid and Barcelona. • The Composition & Iconography: Titled "El Ciclista" (The Cyclist), this dynamic urban narrative centers on a man in a textured grey coat maneuvering his bicycle down a bustling city street, checking his wristwatch as he glances back at an elegant woman in a vibrant red-and-yellow coat. The background is rich with stylized urban life, featuring figures in polka-dot shirts, architectural silhouettes, and faint street/brand tags such as "ROLEX" and "RICARD" beneath an expressive turquoise sky. • Printing & Technique: Meticulously executed via traditional screenprinting (serigraphy) on heavy, exceptionally thick fine art paper (heavyweight rag art stock) in an impressive 70 x 100 cm format. The screenprint process beautifully highlights De Juan's signature layered crayon textures, deep charcoal contours, and saturated pigments. Technical Specifications: • Artist: Javier de Juan (b. 1958, Madrid) • Title: "El Ciclista" • Publisher: Port Said Ediciones (Madrid, Spain) • Year: 1984 • Edition: Strictly limited to 99 copies; hand-numbered 38/99 in pencil (lower-left corner) • Signature: Personally hand-signed by the artist in pencil (lower-right margin) • Medium: Original multi-color silkscreen / serigraph on heavy fine-art paper • Dimensions: 70 x 100 cm (sheet size) • Condition: Near Mint (Archive State) Condition Report: • Sourced directly from flat archival storage, never framed, mounted, or exposed to UV light. • Fresh, highly saturated pigments throughout. • Clean margins, straight edges, and crisp corners; completely free from folds, tears, tape residues, or restoration.
