The artist Denise Zayan was born in Cairo in 1946. She lived in Brazil between 1958 and 1970, before moving to Paris, where she has lived and worked ever since. The cosmopolitan nature of her artistic training and her life can be seen clearly in her work, which reflects both the dazzling tropics and the refinement of French floral painting. With her extensive technical knowledge and creative capacity, this artist has been able to stand out in her adoptive country, France, against strong competition.

Using very varied printing techniques, Zayan gives her works a pictorial warmth reminiscent of pastels or watercolour. Above all the use of carborundum dominates in her work, as an auxiliary material in the printing process, in which she uses a plastic plate instead of a copper one.The breadth of her subject-matter is significant. She has explored fields that go from landscape to portraits and still life work, all with the same interest: revealing the spirit that hides beneath each object and the feelings that are provoked by contemplating it in a certain frame of mind.
