About the artist
Schrader was born in 1945 in Bad Klosterlausnitz, Thüringen. From 1965 to 1969 he studied at the Werkkunstschule in Hamburg, structural design by Max Hermann Mahlmann. In 1972 he was one of the co-founders of the Group of artists of international working groups for structural design (IAFKG) in Antwerp, together with the artists Guy Vandenbranden, Ewerdt Hilgemann, Pierre de Poortere, Richard Paul Lohse, Marcello Morandini and François Morellet. Until 1986 he had six exhibitions of the IAFKG working group in various European countries. In 1974 Schrader took part in the XVII Biennial International d'Art Menton, France.
Since 1986 he has a professorship for typography at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences, Department of Design. Schrader was awarded with several awards. In 2005 he was invited for a Chinese-German painting symposium in Wuyishan, China. The following year he became a member of the international jury for the Olympic Landscape sculpture competition in Beijing, China.
