Zavaro was born in Istanbul in 1925. After his father’s death in 1926, his family moved to France.
In 1945 he entered the l’École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
In 1956 he had his first exhibition in Paris at the Galerie Barbizon.
Working in his Montparnasse atelier, Zavaro rapidly learned the lessons of the abstracts; and, at the same time, he became acutely aware of the limitations of that same movement.
