Ernst Hanke (Zurich, 1945)

After public school Ernst Hanke joined a 4-year apprentice training for the job of an offset printer. Here he came for the first time into contact with original stone lithography. The apprentice training consisted also of a shorter training about stone lithography printing.After the apprentice training he worked in different printing enterprises. Parallel to it he joined evening classes in act drawing and free hand drawing. He painted and drew the whole time always besides.In 1972 he started a career as an lithography limestone printer using the old fashioned lithography printing technique based on lime stones. In his job he got into contact with well-known painters and artists. These contacts helped him very much.By many contacts with artists he could acquire himself an extensive knowledge in lithography art. Some of these contacts last now already over 30 years. In the last twenty years Ernst worked also as an artist creating a lot of lithographs. At the same time he created a lot of work in acryl on canvas painting. Also today he still joins drawing courses occasionally, in order to remain in form and improve his drawings. His topics treat flying in all forms and possibilities to the main thing.Also he loves it to point out the contrasts of nature and technology. In the last twenty years he created innumerable pictures and nearly hundred original stone lithographs, whereby the latter all were naturally printed in his own printing shop.He had exhibitions in Switzerland, Germany, Holland and Sweden. In 1984 he received the international Senefelder price in Offenbach / Germany for one of his stone lithographs. In 1994 he was awarded the price for original stone lithography of the Swiss Lithographenbundes for one of his stone lithographs.
